Lappeenranta is the centre of South Karelia region in south-east Finland. The 13th largest Finnish city by number of inhabitants, Lappeenranta is a city renowned for its natural beauty, its happy Karelian character and its good prospects for the future.
The lake district of Saimaa gives a distinct flavor to the southern Karelian landscape and life style. The bay area, with its historical fortress and linden trees, is the summer paradise for local residents, welcoming guests and travelers from all over the world. With several shopping centres and specialized shops, museums and craftsmen’s shops, Lappeenranta is the commercial and cultural centre of Southeastern Finland.
In the region there are three golf courses, two in Lappeenranta and one in the nearby city of Imatra. The Golden Swing Golf Academy is situated in Kahilanniemi Golf Course, only approximately 2 km from city centre of Lappeenranta. This 9-hole course stretches along Lake Saimaa, and is one of the best park courses in Finland. The other golf course in Lappeenranta, the new 18-hole Etelä-Saimaa golf course is located approximately 15 minutes from the city center and is characterized by its splendid Lake Saimaa views. Imatra Golf, located beside the Immala lake, is only 5 minutes from Imatra city centre and 35 km from Lappeenranta.
