Golf Academy Madrid Spain

Spain is one of the superior golf destinations in Europe with more than 300 courses.  Golf is extremely popular in Madrid and the number of golf players increases each year. There are more than twenty golf courses in Madrid where players can enjoy the game. One of them is Real Club de Golf La Herrería.

Real Club de Golf La Herrería established in 1967. It is situated on the south east side of the Guaderrama Mountain range, at the foot of Monte Abantos  in San Lorenzo del Escorial with fantastic views of the Real Monastery de El Escorial, built in the second half of the 16th century. El Escorial is a historical residence of the king of Spain Philip II, it is located about 45 kilometers northwest of Madrid. On November 2, 1984, UNESCO declared The Royal Site of San Lorenzo of El Escorial a World Heritage Site.

Real Club de Golf La Herrería is situated in 800 meters away from the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, at a height of 1,055 meters which means that the temperature in summer is really mild. This specific microclimate gets kindly enough because of the surrounding mountains.

The course is 6,091 metres long from the tips, with 18 holes. The first 9 holes was altered in 2000 by renowned designer José Gancedo. He saved the nature untouched, so José Gancedo left the oak forest and the autochthonous ash to grow. Tees, greens and sand traps were redesigned, and water hazards were created in holes 1, 2 and 4, leaving the par for the course at 71 strokes. The second 9 holes is a more open space, surrounded by the mountains and crowned by the heights of Abantos, San Benito and Las Machotas.
